Its that time of the year when families normally come together to enjoy each other's company, reflect on the events of 2017 and start thinking about the new year ahead. If you celebrate Christmas, I hope you have a wonderful time filled with fun, laugther and lots of love. Christmas is also a time when we remember our loved ones that are sadly no longer with us. Whatever you have planned I hope the festive season passes peacefully and the start of 2018 brings you everything you wish for.

To start closing off the year, this blog features a sampler Christmas card/frame, which we have made and I have given as a Christmas decoration which can be brought out year after year.

I love making sampler cards especially at Christmas. The speciality Designer series paper Year of Cheer  has an excellent choice of patterned papers that co-ordinate together.

I made my sampler into Christmas cards for my two daughters and presented it to them in  9" x 9" white frames purchased from Ikea. These can then be brought out every year as a decoration at Christmas.

Year of cheer table gift decoration

I held my last card classes for 2017 last week.  I have really enjoyed teaching my ladies this year and look forward to 2018 and doing it all again.  If you would like to join one of my card classes let me know.  I run two classes on a Monday, one on a Friday afternoon, a monthly class on a Sunday morning and the occasional Saturday workshop. Details of class dates are in the side bar.

I made each one of the ladies a Chocolate Stirrer treat bag as a little thank you gift

As it was the last class we made something a little different to cards, a decorated gift box with a matching tag.  They are quite easy to construct and look fabulous. They can be used as table gift decorations and can hold a variety of items such as a small bottle of wine and chocolates. I gave each person a choice of red, white or rose wine to put in theirs to take home.

The outside was decorated with the Beautiful Year of Cheer designer series paper, which unfortunately has now sold out.

Hometown greetings edgelits tealight card

This is another example of  how effective the 'Hometown Greetings edgekits' can be used to create a stunning tealight/luminaire card. Traditionally gold and silver were the colours used mostly in Christmas decorations, so a simple gold and pure white colour scheme, always seems to work out well.

Lots of labels framelits were used on two of the panels to cut out a decorate hole and then vellum heat embossed with white stars attached to the back with the die cut village scene so that when the tealight is lit the light shines through the front.

Merry Patterns in the woodland

A few weeks ago, I was asked by several of my class ladies, if I could create something using the beautiful reindeer from the recent Hostess set called 'Merry Patterns' and came up with the following card. I don't think the photo's always show off the 3D effect of the cards, but even my husband Paul commented on how effective the techniques we used on this one, were.

The 'Soft Sky' ink pad was directly applied to one of the faces on the inside of the embossing folder and the trees were inked with 'Always Artichoke' and directly stamped on to the same side of the embossing folder. A piece of white  card was placed inside the embossing folder and run through the Big Shot to create the woodland scene.

The tree trunks and branches were lightly sponged in crumb cake. Two slits in the card were cut either side of one of the tree trunks and the reindeer was placed through the holes

A very simple but very effective 3D effect landscape creation

Northern Lights technique with hometown greeting edgelits

There are quite a few cards around at the minute using the 'Northern Lights' technique so I thought I would have a go at some myself. Here are the ones I created, again using the hometown edgelits dies! with the top card below featuring in one of my classes :-

Inks used Rich Razzleberry, Night of Navy and Peek-a-boo Peach

Inks used Lemon Lime Twist and Night of Navy

Same colours as the top card using the decorative ribbon border in silver foil down the two sides

Hometown Greetings Bridge U Fold Card

I saw this card  HERE on Amanda's blog at The Craft Spa and was so impressed by the 3D 'pop out' effect, and that it folds extremely flat for easy storage and posting, I just had to make one. My husband, Paul, thinks it would look great with some LED bulbs between each layer and would then remind him of the old light-up Christmas village, that used to be a key feature in most homes at Christmas. If I manage to get a spare couple of hours over the next coming week I will try and create one
